Historical Sites

There are many historical sites present in Half Moon Bay, many about 100 years old. The Spanishtown Historical Society is responsible for maintaining two of the historic downtown buildings. The Jail which was established in 1911 is now used as the Mary Vallejo Historic Center. And immediately behind the Jail is the Tomas Johnston Barn which was recently renovated and will soon house our farm and agricultural exhibit. The Ocean Shore Railway Station building, originally located at the foot of Kelly Avenue has recently been relocated to the Johnston House site. It will soon re-open and be available for all organizations on the coastside to use as a meeting facility, under the operation of the City of Half Moon Bay Parks and Recreation Departement. Another historic site which will soon open to the public is the James Johnston House which has been restored by the Johnston House Foundation.  There are many other historical buildings which are being used by people today.  You may find out more about these buildings with the Spanishtown Historical Society Walking Tour.
